iPad Application Development for Real-Time Gesture Recognition and Following |
Candidato: Marco Bertola Relatore: Giovanni Costantini (Tor Vergata), Bruno Zamborlin (IRCAM Parigi) Abstract: Gestures play an important role in music and they can be directly connected to musical creation. Thus, the growing number of human gesture recognition systems and the improvement of portable device performances, have brought the development of many Personal Digital Assistant applications based on gesture recognition. This dissertation presents a gesture recognition control application for IPAD, developed during a five months stage experience at IRCAM, the Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique of Paris, with the supervision of Bruno Zamborlin and Frederic Bevilacqua. The software includes the Gesture Follower Library, developed by the Real Time Musical Interaction Team of the IRCAM, and the Open Sound Control protocol, a content format for messaging among devices optimized for modern networking technology, developed at CNMAT. The developed application is able to operate real-time gestures recognition and acquired datas dispatching by Wi-fi. The focus of this work is to find out a newer naturally approach for sound-producing process, creating a connection between gestures and music that represents a new area of interest for music research. |
